When Mr P from Horsell approached us to discuss a surprise kitchen idea for his wife’s 50th birthday, we were delighted to help. Our client’s love cooking and entertaining however a small kitchen with a separate adjoining dining room meant Mrs P spent most of her time alone in the kitchen while Mr P entertained the guests in the adjacent room. Mr P knew his wife had always aspired to a larger kitchen with a central island to create her dream entertaining space. Merging the two rooms into one large space and adding a small extension would allow Mrs P’s dream to be fulfilled – a plan was hatched!
The team at Heritage rose to the challenge and particular attention was given to designing an attractive and sociable entertaining space which was also a highly functional “cooks” kitchen and dining space for everyday use as well as those special occasions. Even Mr P’s study was brought into the mix adjacent to the new space. Heritage worked with Raycross Interiors on the kitchen design to ensure that it was an appropriate combination of form & function whilst optimising flow through the room and adjacent spaces to make the most of the available opportunity.
The stunning new kitchen comprises granite surfaces over grey hand-painted shaker style units and stainless steel appliances all supplied by Raycross Interiors in Byfleet. The room is decorated in modern neutral shades highlighted with accents provided by appropriate soft furnishings, feature colour walls & artwork and contrasting textured tiles.
Lighting plays an important park in creating the right mood with a combination of ceiling downlighters, feature traditional island lights and of course natural light. The rooflight even features LED lighting to help with creating the appropriate night-time ambience.
The orangery style extension comprised a flat roof with decorative fascia and integral rooflight to flood the new space with natural light. Like the inside the outside space has also been decorated in modern neutral colours with a cosy private decked dining area perfect for breakfast or a glass of wine at the end of the day.
All-in-all this project is living proof that a modest extension and some internal remodelling and clever use of space can be much more effective that simply adding a large extension.
The final word though must go to Mr P:
“Thank-you Heritage, BBS and Raycross for literally changing our daily lives and very much for the better”
